In 1982, John Carpenter directed the re-make of The Thing. With special effects by Rob Bottin, "The Howling", 1981, it was a controversial science fiction/horror classic that was scary when it was released. Based on the novella "Who goes there?", by John W. Campbell, Jr., it begins with several Norway hunters, (Larry Franco and Norbert Weisser), who are shooting at a dog with rifles, in the Arctic ice. Afterwards, a group of men who are working in Antarctica, fall victim to The Thing.
